psp 3003, OFW 5.02 advice please?

Hello, I am new to this forum and homebrew software in general.

A few months ago I purchased a second hand psp 3003, which is running official software 5.02. I would like to install the main cfw (chickHEN I think it is called?), but don't know if I nead a Pandora's battery, which version of chickHEN to use etc. Apparently only firmware 5.03 or below is hackable and 5.02 is better because it has less security features?

I done some research but any advice/ information would be greatly appreciated :-)

I personally use 6.20 PRO b-10 perma patched on my PSP 3000.
Download 6.20 Official firmware here: :: zload.net ::

and install this: 620PRO-B10.fix1.rar - procfw - 6.20 PRO-B10.fix1 - X-Generation Aftermarket Firmware for Playstation Portable

Just follow these instructions, and it should work.

1. Put the contents of PSP/GAME into your PSP/GAME folder on the memory stick.

2. Run the PROUPDATE and follow the on screen instructions.

3. Run the 620PRO_Permanent and follow the on screen instructions. MAKE SURE YOU TEST IT.

4. If it works after you test it, then run the 620PRO_Permanent again, and don't test it.

5. You are now on a Permanent patched custom firmware.


EDIT: before you run the official firmware update, make sure your battery is charged.

Thanks a bunch for your post Josh443, Im guessing that this 'permanent patch' for the latest ofw renders chickHEN obsolete. I'd like to ask one silly question though- you say permanent patch, does this just mean the patch is stable?

nope . the latest firmware is 6.60. perma patch means you dont have to relaunch it when your PSP reboots or shuts off . unlike any other LiteCFW

6.20 pro-b10 is the only perma patch for unhackables
