march console sales
The North American console sales for March are as follows:
Nintendo DS: 508K
Sony PlayStation 2: 280K
Nintendo Wii: 259K (2.1 million total)
Microsoft Xbox 360: 199K (5.3 million total)
Sony PSP: 180k
Nintendo Game Boy Advance: 148K
Sony PlayStation 3: 130K (1.2 million total)
Nintendo Gamecube: 22K
Microsoft Xbox: N/A
PS2 totally kicked PS3 ass, as well as the PSP gettting shown who the boss is by the DS.
thoughts? |

yea sales is inversely proportional to sale price. money is eh biggest factor for most people, ds out selling psp doesnt mean ds is the better handheld. |

well i think their are more sales for the ds because it is more kid friendly and most people don't know about all the modding homrbew stuff you can do with it. also it is cheeper. the only reason i would want a ds is animal crossing.
and the ps3 just suxs, it is going to have no good games since Microsoft is buying all the titles. they might even have the rights to the new final fantasys. |

ps2 is STILL selling strong... even on the verge of its death. somehow i just dont see this system being considered "market dead" for another 2-3yrs
ds sells better then the psp for 3 reason.
1. ds has better games then the psp
2. ds is more durable then the psp
3. ds is far cheaper then the psp
i dont know about the rest of you, but i buy a system to play games... not stare at it for 3 months wondering when something good is gonna come out
the state of the ps3: while it may be superior to the 360, lets face the facts.
1. ps3 is very expensive.. most of the people buying them are adults
2. all the games on it (with the exception of 3-5) are titles people played 8 months ago on the xbox 360. theres a sales hit. u can get a 360 and those same games for less
3. it lost a few exclusives to the 360
4. anyone following the press statements might have been turned off by sonys generally cocky attitute towards their new system.

@julie: i agree, especially about sony's cocky attitude, but i dont blame them, looking purely at hardware, sony's got the upper hand, so they have bragging rights. Honestly i would buy the ps3 without even looking at its game library, im not teh type of person that buys consoles for gaming, i work on a lot of modding projects and teh ps3 has an enormous amount of potential, i have only bought 6 games for my psp and stopped there and i dont even play them anymore. im just into teh homebrew thing and i keep loking for new hardware mods to go thru. |

well the poor PS3 has the potential to rock. developers find it to be an intimidating platform, and I agree sony's attitude is not helping the situatiopn. However you can buy one for $600 and have
a powerful gaming system (with a shortage of games)
a blu-ray player (way cheaper than the standalone blu-rays)
one bad ass linux box.
that cell processor makes for one bad ass linux machine. So when you think of it that way its not a bad deal to get all of those things for $600. I don't own one because I can't afford it, if I could i would probably have the wii-60 setup instead. I don't hate the PS3 my homeboy has one and its a nice system but it will take a while for it to get going, if it ever does at all. With the power it has, it would be a shame to see it be the next jaguar. |

it will pick up eventually. the 360 has a slow start as well, for the same reasons: lack of software. only the fanboys are picking them up right now, since the majority of people dont wanna buy a system with so few games to play

I have a ps3 and I love it. Granted its expensive, and to really get your investments worth out of it, you need an HDTV. The game library for the ps3 is currently pretty weak. There are some excellent exclusives scheduled for release between now and christmas though. I think by the next holiday season, the game library will have caught up and the ps3 (with a likely price reduction by then) will begin to finds its way into more homes. There are currently a few good exculsives (Resistance and some download only games like Flow, Blast Factor, and Tekken 5) but there should and will be be more. |

Well, when you have motorstorm and f1 racing sold as big releases, it's pretty obvious that they need a swift kick in the ass to get going. I still find it funny how many people think motorstorm is awesome...and i'm just waiting for some actual titles to start dropping.
If i remember correctly the ps2 also had some pretty crappy launch titles (battle arena toshiden, felony 11-79, ports). I guess game developers just like to ease into a new system before shelling out some great titles.
That being said, i'm interested in how Little Big World turns out, and if Home will be a success. |

Metal Gear is gonna make that big purchase worthwhile. By that time too, the developers will have a better idea of what they can do with the hardware, like Connekt said.
