ROFL!
Pssh... all your speculations are wrong. The PSP God was pissed he didn't mod his PSP and set the damn thing on fire while he was in Band Class lol. J/k. |

ive witnessed the dangers of lipo batteries.
my friend was flying one of his rc helicopters, which runs on lipo batteries, and in mid flight it started dropping as the batteries power died, and then smoke started coming out from under the canopy, soon after a small puff of fire (like when someone lights a pile of gunpowder) and the heli caught fire and crashed into the ground. he crashed another heli last month with that same pack in it, so he thinks he ruptured it and it finally went on that day. dangerous stuff. lipo technology is improving and becoming safer, but theres always a chance of damaging a pack and setting it off

Its just so weird though because I've never heard of it happening in a psp, but I guess there is a first time for everything and considering how laptop batteries are always recalled, I guess it's possible with a psps battery as well...It's still funny as hell to picture that little kid :P

someone should have warned this kid that making a pandora battery has the possibility of shorting it. |

Damn, this not good news for a guy who is about to get a PSP Slim. I haven't got one yet but the article gave me a thought where I happily unpack my new PSP only to have it blow my face off Still gonna get one though.
This is like the first time I have ever heard of this happening to a PSP and a second time I have heard of a burning unit in someone's pants. This grown man had an ipod and it just went off in his pants, he just ripped it out though instead of dropping and rolling. I'm not going to blame the kid for what happened to the PSP cause sometimes things malfunction for no damn reason and it's bound to happen when it is being manufactured in millions of copies. |

I've hacked quite a few laptop batteries and replaced cells. Hacked damn near everything else. The first attempt at cracking the case on an OE PSP battery resulted in my just _barely_ nicking the inner mylar covering. There was a small puff of smoke (that was the magic leaking out) and then about a 1/2 long flame shot out of the damn thing.
Needless to say I was on my way to the sink to get it under water and out of oxygen. Of course that may not have been the best idea either, but it was better than my desk going up in flames...
Needless to say I was a bit more careful on the next attempt |

I took apart a Sony Vaio laptop battery once. It was a lithium ion battery, but it had cells in it that looked like "C" batteries. It didn't explode or smoke or anything, but each cell was individually encased in a metal/plastic shell much like alkaline batteries.
I took apart my psp battery just for the hell of it, but I didn't want to short anything out so I didn't use any tools, just my fingernails. It wasn't that hard, was just tinkering with it while watching TV. It still works just like it did before, but I need to replace the battery anyways; its been in use since psp launch. |
