Japan hardware sales: Nintendo DS declines to third place, psp 2nd

The top three contending platforms in Japan are the DS, the Wii, and the PSP. Usually it's the Nintendo platforms that dominate the first and second spot, but that's not the case this week. It seems the DS is losing a bit of its selling power.

For the week of January 28 to February 3, the Nintendo DS has landed on third place. No worries for Nintendo though; DS sales may have declined since last week, but Wii sales have risen. The Wii is currently sitting pretty in first place.

What's odd is that all of the other consoles have had an increase in sales since last week; it's only the DS that's declined in sales. Perhaps it's only a blip in the charts. We'll wait for next week's sales report and see if it's becoming a trend.

Here are the hardware figures for Japan for the week ending on January 27:

* Wii: 94,473
* PSP: 72,528
* DS Lite: 67,472
* PS3: 41,796
* PS2: 12,115
* Xbox 360: 6,060

its crazy that the psp is outselling the ps3..but it is also crazy that the ps2 is outselling the 360. The Japanese are so loyal to sony. BTW in real life i am actually a black and white pic of darth vader.

And yeah i agree with casual - i can't wait for the new games coming out - and I just bought a new slim selling my two psp's atm (one faulty, one not) should make some good money

Ahhh~ I wonder what the world ranking for all consoles are at the moment... Would look it up... But I cbf lol. My guess is Wii is at the top, then DS and then PSP?? And then maybe the other next gen consoles?
