Unfortunately, as far as the DMCA is concerned, it is NOT the exact game that you own...It is a modified version, thus technically it is considered to be illegally modified as it was done without the consent of the copyright holder.
When it comes to software, you are never legally in posession of anything. You are technically paying for the right to use the game. Since you don't own the software (the game coding itself), only the hardware (the physical UMD disc), no modification of it whatsoever on your end is legal. GNU licenses are a totally different matter, but suffice it to say that if you paid for a piece of software the DMCA is applicable.
