Default Monster Hunter Rules

No one can stop the latest installment.

US, May 9, 2008 - Japan appears to be fixed the combination of Mario Kart and Monster Hunter. The Nintendo and Capcom smash hits continued their reigns at the top of this week's Media Create sales chart, covering April 28 to May 4.

Mario Kart Wii was, once again, in the top spot with an additional 173,387 sales. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G took second with 102,320 units. The two have remained in the same position for the past four weeks, since Mario Kart's release. In terms of overall sales, Mario Kart has already crossed the million mark. Monster Hunter is closing in on two million.

The only new entry in the top ten came at three as Link's Crossbow Training, complete with the Wii Zapper, debuted at 92,534 units. It was followed by a bunch of older titles: Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii, 51,851 units), Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS (Namco Bandai, DS, 42,416), Pokemon Ranger Batonnage (Pokemon, DS, 30,675), Bokura ha Kaseki Horida (Nintendo, DS, 26,661), Valkyria Chronicles (Sega, PS3, 24,422), Deca Sporta (Hudson, Wii, 24,302), and Wii Sports (Nintendo, Wii, 21,979).

Like the software race, hardware sales have had a fixed order for some time now. PSP was once again at the top this week with 100,870 units. Wii saw a leap, likely due to the Golden Week period of holidays, up to 71,518 units, with DS Lite coming in below that at 52,542 units. Rounding out the hardware chart were the regulars: PS3 at 10,177, PS2 at 8,802, and Xbox 360 at 1,725.

I hope like Japan, sales unit of PSP increases in rest of the world too ......... Cos with increase in units games developers will surely think of making more games for PSP

BTW according to PSPFANBOY site ....

Interest in PSP is returning, says Infected dev

Planet Moon has been a strong supporter of PSP, dedicating itself to the creation of exclusives on Sony's handheld. Their titles, Infected and After Burner, tried new things on the handheld, but neither title found the success that they were looking for. "We're very proud of them. We wish they'd found a bigger audience, but I think most people who've made PSP games wish that in retrospect," Planet Moon's Aaron Loeb told Gamasutra.

Sluggish software sales for (relatively) expensive games forced Planet Moon to abandon PSP development, just like many other developers. While they're currently working on Wii games, they do note that PSP may experience a resurrection of sorts. "Interest in the PSP is definitely coming back among the publishers, though. That little puppy just keeps on selling!"

We're certain that many publishers were caught off-guard by the sales resurgence of PSP, after the introduction of the redesigned PSP-2000 and big-name releases, such as God of War and Crisis Core. However, games do take quite a time to create -- it may be a while before we're able to reap the fruits of any new PSP development.
