Sony has recently made an update which requires you to upgrade your firmware in order to access PSN. Now some of you may think this means nothing, but if you're using 5.03 ChickHEN R2 with GEN-A (FULL), and you enjoy playing online games, then you're out of luck. Some online games require you to log into your PSN in order to sign in, and a good example is Resistance: Retribution.
Rumors are going around that custom firmware updates are around the corner, a solution to your problem, but these are just rumors and we all know how fast fake rumors spread. No official confirmation has been released proving these claims. On another note, some people have mentioned that upgrading to 5.50 GEN-A will solve your problem, but there have been contradicting reports regarding this idea.
IF YOU TRY IT, YOU MAY BE AT RISK OF FAILURE OR WORSE. IT HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN TO WORK FOR EVERYONE!!!
Nevertheless, there is hope. It shouldn't be long before someone breaks this new security update, and modified versions of custom firmware for HEN/GEN users may be released in the near future. For the record, I am simply speculating a theoretical possibility based on the fact that hackers will always find a way to hack. If you see this last statement as any form of rumor, I implore you to strike your cheek with a swift hand to knock a little sense into yourself.
Hackers, it's your move. Sony stepped out of line, it's time to put them back in their cage.
