NEWS: Sony Blocks GEN Users from PSN

Sony has now blocked GEN custom firmware users! =(

Right now the gen team says they have fully decrypted 6.00 OFW so we will be seeing 6.00GEN pretty soon! if not DA might have been waiting for this!

GEN cannot access PSN, meaning no Syphon Filter Ops, Resistance, and no downloading from their PSN store

The message you will get when you try to access the store is to update your PSP's firmware.

I got this from experience, attempt right now to access your PSN account on your PSP with GEN 5.50....

I tried to access PSN and it gave me that message.

i concur...i actually notified on here as well and smokey and i have been venting back and forth about this kick in our custom firmware butts lol...looks like the waiting game is being played again for us............*sigh*

I personally don't see how you can complain, there is no reason Sony should cater to CFW users. If you're an OFW user it would make sense to be on the newest firmware, so it would also make sense to make that a requirement.

Indeed, but honestly why do it? They allow people on their US forums to talk about homebrew and new CFW etc... why just say "FUCK YOU" right in their faces and pull this off?

But they're not just doing it for CFW users. Anyone on any official firmware that isn't 6.00 or 6.10 won't get into the store. So 5.00, 5.50, 5.51 OFW users will have to upgrade.

They're not blocking CFW users specifically, they're blocking anyone not on the newest firmware. Simples.

Regardless dude, it's a kick to our face -_-. Because the average user would just update no problem, they don't care what do they lose?(besides compatibility).

So in the end it's still specifically for us xD

Maybe, but not directly, it's just unfortunate that our CFW is based on outdated FW. Again, not Sonys fault, they haven't gone directly after us, they just happened to snare us.

You don't need to update -_-. It's not like your system will break if it accesses the store on 5.00.

What is so stupid about it? Why is it so odd for Sony to require you to have the latest firmware to use their online functions? It's no different from other online systems. If you want to play PC games online you need the latest patch, same goes for Xbox 360 online, and i assume PS3 aswell.

It's common sense.

ya but those of us on cfw who use the psn cant, so sony has lost sales, i thought they were one who wanted money

They've obviously found that the number of people with CFW actually using the PS Store is quite low.

Well how would you know that? I am just makin a guess here but I honestly think that 80% of the world has models that are hackable, so with that being said what makes you think these people will not find out about the epicness of cfw? Who doesn't want to use their psp for snes,nes,n64,ps1,genesis,arcade machines, and other epicly awesome retro consoles?

I would allow CFW users on PSN, now I would make a system that detects pirated copies of a game, somehow... I might hire like someone really smart to like make CFW piraters lose online with their games. this way you only get fucked if you do somethin illegal.

EDIT: Also I have minimal use for PSN too, I haven't used it for too long, I honestly find no use for it, but I was plannin on buying resistance x( my friend let me try his game and I was blown away that it had online!

that's the main reason why I upgraded to GEN. Let's hope 6.00GEN has some of the features(like SensMe, looks alright of a feature to have just the Ipod coverflow thing attracts me to it) that 6.10 offers. Or maybe an update.

Dark Alex did a test a while back, can't remember how he did it exactly, but the number of PSP users with CFW is still very low. The ammount of those users that then use the PS Store has to be even lower. I've never used it once.

As for the second point, good luck with that. None of those systems ever work.
