well, i had a 1.5 out of the box. the box showed the "A" and i was playing homebrew from the beginning. then i got bored of it. bought megaman (the one with the fat heads) and was forced to upgrade to 2.6. figured what the hell since i have all my emulators on my laptop as well and i figured good games would eventually come out that would force me to upgrade. anyways, havent played in months, and i mean mooooooooonths. how do i go about downgrading my psp now?? it is currently 2.6. i tried looking at the back to see which motherboard i have but i didnt see anything.

also, if i decide to try and downgrade, which is the safest?? i heard that if i do the 3.03 downgrade with the GTA unpatched game that some files are left behind that could cause problems later if i upgrade again. im not very good at all of this hacking stuff. i just want to know which downgrade is the best and safest and how do i find out which motherboard i have since i see nothing in the back. thanks

you can downgrade from 2.71 without using GTA

yeah i recommend upgrading to 2.71 and downgrading from there, downgrading from 3.03 when you dont have to is asinine.

so is the 2.71 downgrade the safest? easiest? like i said, im not experienced with this at all. when it was 1.5, i got everything to run properly but i think thats cause it was super easy to just follow instructions

also, once downgraded, i have to stay downgraded correct? or is there a way to play new games without upgrading and make the psp think IT IS upgraded??

There is. Install 3.03 OE-C or 3.40 OE-A.

It's the 3.03 or 3.40 firmware, only still has the ability to run unsigned code. And DAX added other stuff too...
If you semi-brick, you can get out of it.

upgrade to 2.71 and use the 2.71 easy installer for the downgrade just follow the instructions.

ok, that was too much info all at once, lol. so the 3.40oe-a is an upgrade that lets me still run homebrew right?? total noob here so please be patient with me. my main concern is that i want a good and clean downgrade that will not cause any future problems but im looking forward to the new god of war game coming out later this year

3.40oe-a is an upgrade that lets you run homebrew,iso/cso (copy's of your umd games ),playstation1 games and many more.......and the recovery mode feature.

copies of umd games?? how do i do that?? that sounds super cool. what would happen if god of war comes out and requires a higher update than 3.4 to run??

first there is no higher firmware update then 3.40 . second we are not allowed to discuss about downloading games. if you wanna make a copy of your own games i suggest to search the forum.

is the 2.71 downgrade safe?? is is safer or "cleaner" than the 3.03 downgrade? im only asking because i read somewhere that the 3.03 downgrade leaves files behind so they recommend that you do not downgrade, then update, then downgrade again becuase it will cause problems. does the 2.71 downgrade leave files behind?? is it pretty easy??

do not upgrade to 3.03 !! downgrading 3.03 requires the unpatched gta lcs !! just upgrade to 2.71 and use the downgrader i gave you the link.
it is very save just read and follow the on screen instructions of that application.

note: while your psp downgrading to 1.50 you will see a red screen do not turn off you psp !! just wait till it finish. and i recommend you to format your memory stick before you copy the downgrade files to your memorycard.

im still curious as to whether or not it leaves behind traces of the update i did. im sure every downgrade leaves something behind. but as long as its saafe, ill give it a shot. i know about the gta unpatched downgrade for 3.03. i was looking on ebay for a copy of it just in case i had to use it. but now that i know i dont need it, ill follow your suggestions. im really interested in the umd rippin you mentioned. ill have go google that. umd rippin alone would make downgrading worth it. hope i dont brick it. im getting nervous, lol

PS: how can i tell which motherboard i have?? i checked the back of the psp but didnt see any numbers or codes. my psp was 1.5 out of the box. it had the "A" on the bar code or whatever

yeah, i did that and didnt see any numbers. so that means i dont have a ta-082 right? anyways, before i do the easy 2.71 downgrader, i need to update to 2.71 right? or is that included in the downgrader??
