so,when it says plug in ac adapter, i plug in the usb charger n it charges but the red writing still says ac not connected and resets in 10 secs back to menu.hence it wont go any further.
in the main psp menu it says external power/charging so why wont the auto downgrader accept it and continue .the battery is new and 100% charged.
is it a case of "U HAVE TO HAVE A MAINS CHARGER TO DO FIRMWARE CHANGE " or is it something else?.
    THANKS.

I think what it's asking for is the actual AC adapter for the PSP, what you're using is a newer usb charger that the downgrader doesn't recognize. Grab one from a Gamestop or Wal-Mart and i think you'll be golden. Also as an alternative, there is a 2.71 downgrader out there that's pretty spot-on if the 2.60 one is giving you too much grief.

well search reveals nothing on how to upgrade 260 to 271,just gives me hundreds of irrelevant pages,so wont be doing that then.
as u can tell there is no booklet etc with my psp and sony website explaination just results in a corrupted data message.
sod it,have read sooo many threads now and am fed up with all the confusion and pratts saying use search.half the links i get are nonexistant.
    i give up.
thanks anyway to those that tried to help.

I hear ya about the "USE SEARCH!" thing, but a lot of people see the same questions asked over and over Now, DO NOT GIVE UP! Here's a link to the 2.71 official Sony Firmware :: PSP Downloads | 2.71 Firmware Update (US)

Once you're done with that, do a search for "2.71 Easy Downgrader" and you should find what you're after!

Again, DON'T GIVE UP! Custom firmware gives the PSP soooo much more functionality!

    Good luck!
