Hi im going to buy a psp very shortly and i want too know which firmware i have to buy? as im new to psp i want the psp to play games from the memory stick.

You would want to try to get your hands on a psp that has a firmware version 2.80 or lower because 2.80 and lower does not require the use of an UMD to downgrade. It will be hard to find a psps with these firmwares, they only come with used psps, but if you are looking to by a new psp, you would want to get one that is 3.50 or lower to dowgrade but it requires the use of an UMD.
how should i check if it has the right firware?
i mean, i read some important stickys but in order to check the firmware, i have to turn on the psp right? when i want to buy the psp, i cannot ask them to turn on the psp to check which firmwqare i got, i think
Is that the only advice you offer? You know there are other ways to downgrade then 3.50..
To the thread starter, see if you can get your hands on a nice used PSP, they usually have lower firmware. The lower the better, because you have more options.
You can tell from the box, let me find the codes.

hey, canadianbonatic. that was a great help. i will look for a very nice used one. but most new ones do not come with the original sony box. so the only choice i have, is to turn on the psp, right??
Just buy a used of ebay, much cheaper and at least you can buy it already flashed with ISO's.
