I was watching Youtube and saw several videos were people changed their PSP operating system to 3.60 M33 or 3.71 M33. I have owned my PSP for nearly a year now and have been running the standard software with the occasional upgrade. I have system software version 3.72 on my standard PSP.

I normally only use my PSP to watch video's so would an upgrade or downgrade benefit me? I see so many different hacks such as Pandora's Battery and have no clue what they are used for. Can someone school an old guy like me on why it's better to hack a PSP over the regular setup? Thanks.

hacked psp allow many great things
such as running backed up UMD's of your memory stick
    ability to play homebrew games.
and custom firmware allows you to mess with the flash
these are just a few reason to get custom firmware

You said you like watching videos on your psp. Well with CF you get more video options....such as the new search function.

You can use "homebrew" applications to do things the psp wouldn't normally be able to do,like with a specific application(IR Shell) you can use your psp as a remote control. You can also use "plugins" that allow you to do things that you never even dreamed of before, like a plugin called"cwcheat" that's like a gameshark running from your memory stick and another one called "capture" that allows you to take in-game/xmb(psp home menu) or make videos like the one I have as my sig...Ok,you see the difference(if i sit here telling you about how "modded" firmware is better than official then i would spend all day)

there are so many benifits as the others here have listed - but there is the slight risk of bricking your psp which you might have heard about, if not look it up, a quick search in google will find it - i reocomend the pandoras battery downgrader as this can recover bricks as well as downgrading

yer i know but it is worth having a way that you can recover the brick if you cause one --- rather than downgrade, start using custom firmware and then accidentaly brick it then need too buy a pandoras battery to fix the problem

(this is not me coming up with an idea - this is speaking from personal experience!!)
