Hey all, fairly new to the PSP scene and I have a couple questions. I just bought a PSP that still has the original 1.50 firmware (because I definitely want homebrew capabilities without having to jump through hoops). I have already put a couple emulators on it to try it out (Nester and gPSP) and it's great! I want some opinions on whether or not I should update to 3.80 M33-5 or 3.90 M33-2 firmware, or leave it as it is with the original 1.50 FW. I do want to be able to play PSX games on it so I know I need a newer firmware, but should I leave this one as it is and buy another PSP to install a newer firmware on? Are there any reasons (like newer firmware bugs) why I should leave the 1.50 FW on it? If I did install a custom FW on it, would it be easy (or possible) to revert back to the original 1.50 FW? Also, which of the custom firmware versions would be best to install?

I don't need help on how to install firmware because unlike a lot of noobs to the scene I do know how to read directions and research information on the internet. I just want opinions on why I should or shouldn't update. Thanks.

you should upgrade to 3.80m33-5. its has the psx emulator. and you can install the 1.5 kernel add-on to retain homebrew apps that use the 1.5 kernel

no... while i use 3.80m33-5 and swear by it, don't start with it... if he's interested in psx emulation he should start with 3.71m33-3... great built in popstation. the 3.80 pops wont run ff7 and has a few other compatibility probs... until he reads a lot more on changing popstation prx's and all the rest 3.71 will work better, and he can always upgrade later, where as he'll need to make a pandora to go back down.
I don't mind straight people so long as they act gay in public...

If he wants the best PSX compatibility he should go with 3.40OE-A, ah, new modders these days .

OK so let's say I want to install 3.71 M33-4. It seems some PSX games no longer work properly in 3.80 M33 and up. Forgive me if I'm wrong. From what I've read in txt files and such, I would have to go from 1.50 to 3.52 M33, update that to M33-3 or M33-4, then flash 3.71 M33-4. Is that correct? Are the 1-4 updates cumulative, or do I have to install them in sequential order?

I know you all must have seen these questions a hundred times, but detailed information is hard to find, and I don't want to have to flash anymore than I absolutely have to. I just want the highest compatibility with emulators and PSX games possible.

Just curious, is there a reason you recommended 3.71 M33-3 and not M33-4?
