Hi all I've been browsing forums and tutorials for 2 full days but still not sure what is really required for CFW? (i didnt install the current one myself store did it for me)

I thought you need pandora's battery but someone said you don't you just need to plug in the AC and use the magic memory stick!

Anyways I have CFW3.71 m33 now and want to update it to the new 3.8x or 3.90 but how do i do this? Even if i do need and HAVE the pandora battery would I need to wipe out everything then reinstall the new version? Or i can simple just copy over the new CFW files or something?

I just want to get cleared up about it =( I am so confused...trying to get emulator to work too but it's wayy over my head

ok well first you need the official sony firm ware you want
so download it but not on your psp
this site has up to 3.8 ofw so go to
PSP Downloads | 3.90 Firmware Update if you want 3.9
    3.93 wont work

anyways after getting them go to dark-alex.organd download
the custom fw add-on you want for whatever ofw you downloaded
so i you got 3.8 get the 3.8 m33-whatever or if you got 3.9 download the
    3.9 m33-2

and falow the direction in the read me.

or you can go into your system update if you have a wireless internet connection and need like 18mb. or just goto dark-alex.org download the update you want then put the UPDATE folder in your game folder.

i wouldn't really recommend the update thought unless you don't us the cfw for psx games.. cuz the latest 3.71 m33-4 is the latest you can use it for games like xenogears, final fantasy VII, mk trilogy...

Thanks soo much everyone who's replied!
But ohh ok so if i have 3.71 m33-4 then i dnt eve need that Popsloader app? Great! =D 'Cause yah I want to play PSX games. How did you guys know if the CFW includes emulators or not? =P

    I have the normal 3.71 m33 I think though..not the -3, -4..etc
Can I just download it and replace all the files in my folders though does that complete the "update"? Or do I need the pandoras battery + magic memory stick still? Or is that stuff only required when u are installing CFW the FIRST time or upgrading to major versions like 3.71/3.8/3.9...etc?

Sorry I am just so confused trying to know this stuff like you guys..
Also to update to any major versions of CFW (like 3.7 > 3.8) would you need to download the official FW 1st THEN upgrade? Or can i go from like 3.71m33 to 3.90m33 etc right away too?

    thanks a bunch again!

the CFW doesn't include an emulators, its a homebrew application that you can download anywhere and run it in your CFW psp.

since you already a CFW, you don't need the pandoras battery and magic memory card to upgrade. but to downgrade yes.

what i have before is 3.71 m33-2, then i downloaded m33-3, and 4 from Dark Alexsite, copy 3.71 m33-3 file called EBOOT.PBP to /psp/game/update (if this folder not there, create it) and run it. after its done, i continue to 3.71 m33-4, same procedure, done.

to go to 3.80, download 3.80 original firmware and 3.80 m33, copy the original to the same folder above but rename it first to 380.pbp, now also copy the eboot.pbp from 3.80 m33 to the same folder. run it, and when finish, you will be on 3.80 m33, continue to the update m33-2 to 5 with the same procedure.

    good luck

oh woa thanks guys! I'll try it I guess I didn't create teh folder under PSP\GAME

Is 3.80 alot better? What's the difference between that and 3.71?
because I heard 3.71 is best for PSX games?

i havent had more time to read on about versions, but AFAIK, 3.80 m33-5 is the most stable version for CFW. so far, havent got any problems.

read on the other topics of Firmwware sub.
