I just bought a PSP Slim a few days ago. It is currently running 3.71 M33. Do I need to upgrade to 3.90 M33-3? What are the benefits of this over 3.71 M33?

Some games such a SBK Superbike Championship hangs otherwise it works fine. Is there something wrong with my PSP's firmware?Do I need to upgrade to 3.90 M33-3

I did my search but just got more confused because of the posts.
I have read that I need a Pandoras Box and some other thing to be able to do the upgrade. What are those? What do I need to upgrade firmware?

Thanks guys for your patience and help.

3.80m33 & 3.90m33 have pro's that 3.71m33 don't have like m33 net update. There are a lot of themes for 3.90m33 as well as cmxb theme changer so you don't have to flash or risk a brick.Basically all 3 are just as good as the other in my opinion.I'm on 3.90m33 & I have no problems with it.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Now how do I do the update again? Do I need the Pandora's Box? Do I need the Magic Memory Card? What exactly are those? What procedures should I follow? I already downloaded the 3.90 M33-3 from Alex D's site.

Looking forward help from you guys. Thanks in advance.

if you are on 3.71 m33, and you want to go to 3.90 m33 with 1.50 kernal addon. then go to dark-alex.org, download cfw 3.90 m33-3 file and 1.50 Kernel addon for 3.90-2 file. but you also need to download an offical 3.90. pdp. i think you rename the ofw 3.90.pdp to 390. now place the office pdp and the cfw pdp together in the same folder name UPDATE, and place it in the GAME folder. On your XMB. go to game icon/ memory stick. and there should be a file call UPDATE, press [x] and it'll update you to 3.90m33-3. now with the 1.50 kernal add on, copy and paste the 1.50 addon folder in to your GAME folder, download the offical 1.50pdp, and rename it 150 and put in your root of the ms. On your XMB. go to game icon/ memory stick. and there should be a file there call 1.50addon and press [x]

Don't worry about the 1.5 add-on it's usually in the updates.Go to dark Alex site & get 3.80m33 first because sometimes you can't upgrade strait to 3.90m33.Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't,then just do the m33 net.update & the 1.5 kernel is already in the update

Yeah, just follow what dave said but also quit calling it a pandora's box. It's pandora's battery. Actually do what you want. The whole pandora's box thing makes me laugh. And if you want emulators after you update, all the ones you'll want or need are here.

Thanks for the input guys. Sorry about pandora's box. I stand corrected. Pandora's battery. I got confused.

Custom firmware Update completed. I am now on 3.90 M33-3. Yahoooooo!
    Thanks for the help guys.

PS. Jackspicer's method was the effective one. I downloaded OFW 3.90 from another site and renamed eboot.pdp file to 390.pdp. I downloaded the 3.90 M33-3 CFW from Alex-Dark. I put both 390.pdp and 3.90 M33-3 in a folder named Update as per Jackspicer's instruction. Then copied it to my Games folder on PSP. Then just followed the rest of the instructions after opening the Update file on XMD.

By the way... what does XMD stand for?
