    [SOLVED]

Okay, so Sony fights tooth and nail to friggen stop us from using our little PSP's to their full advantage. This is something I did not realize when i went out and impulse bought myself a PSP specifically for the purpose of playing homebrew (SNES and PSX mostly). I've always wanted a portable nintendo damn it! (don't tell me "gameboy")

So i get home and start doing research, within the first ten minutes i followed bad instructions and shorted my battery trying to make a pandora (don't charge it before you open it, derp.) it's probably good i broke the battery, 'cause if i had rushed ahead with the install method i probably would have bricked my TA-082 motherboard using the wrong downgrader.

So i've done some more research since then, and the most promising method seems to be the TA-082 2.71 downgrader method using HEN-D, the guide for which is on this site, and can be found here:

.... ooops, apparently i need 15 posts before i'm allowed to post url links... even to this site.... that..... is..... retarded

Now, i am still waiting on my Pandora's Battery (Datel TOOL battery) and it should be here in a couple days, i assume this method requires such a battery (although the method does not mention it)

I tried to do this mod anyway, about five minutes ago, but it does nothing (when i go to display the "rand.jpg" picture on my psp, it actually SHOWS the picture, and the "loadbinary.tif" file reads as "Corrupted Data")

I'm working under a hypothesis of two possibilities here, either this downgrade method requires the pandora's battery to put the PSP into service mode first, OR this method simply has been out-engineered by sony under 3.93 (or perhaps 3.90 and up) official firmware.

While I am impatient to downgrade my PSP (after all i didn't even want one until i realized i could play my ROMS and PSX iso's on it) I am willing to wait for a stable tested method of downgrading the 3.93 firmware.

I have spoken to an individual online (who shall remain nameless) who says he has successfully downgraded his 3.93 firmware, and that it is in fact possible, however during our discourse he did not tell me which method he used, which downgrader he installed, or whether he has a TA-082 troublsome ass motherboard. I am awaiting further reply from him, but i do not expect to obtain all the answers from one source. He's a busy man anyway, and i've been asking a lot from him.

My questions to all of those out there (Especially you PSPmod.com moderators and site administrators) are these. What's the word on 3.93 downgraders? Is work progressing? Has anyone sucessfully downgraded a 3.93 firmware using methods designed for previous firmwares? And if so, can you provide links to the guide?

Since i feel i am pretty far from the only person seeking this information, i hope this thread will receive a lot of posts, but i don't necessarily expect anyone to come up with all the answers, we ARE dealing with reverse engineering a proprietary system here. When my pandora's battery arrives i will try the 2.71 ta-082 method once more, and post the results here, so if i brick my PSP, you'll all be the first to know.

I didn't read much, but you need Pandora's Battery obviously.

3.51+ there have been no downgraders, since there is no need for one ever since Pandora. So no, there isn't/never will be a downgrader for 3.93 (or any 3.51+ firmware as of now).

If you have a Pandora's battery there is no reason to do a 2.71 (or for that matter, any) downgrader besides Pandora.

I've personally downgraded from 2.71, it's pretty safe, but a bitch to get HEN-D to work.

Anyway, wait for your tool battery, then follow some tutorials to create the memory stick, then you don't need to do any

yes, canadian, but the problem is that i've found several tutorials that use the pandora's battery as their method, many of which say it's dangerous to use them on a TA-082 motherboard. You obviously know what you're talking about, so i'm glad you replied so promptly, 'cause i find myself very confused.

I guess everything i posted originally is kind of moot, and has been for a while. oops. So now i've got one more question, which set of software do i need to use the pandora battery (i'm assuming it's the one that, when you download it, is called Univer.zip, as this is the one that has all the pandora's stuff on it)

Is this the right software or do i need different software? and if so, is it safe for TA-082.

Thanks man, you've already been a huge help.

Ever since 3.03 every single downgrader has been prepared for TA-082, TA-082 was only a bad thing up to 2.71 (before that it was 'un hackable'), which had a very good TA-082 downgrader.

Any pandora you happen to use, whether it's the original 1.50 downgrader or the newest DC7 with 4.01M33, will be fine with your TA-082 motherboard. Nothing special to do, follow the tutorials without thinking you have to do something special, because you don't have to.

    No problem.

Though, just to let you know you may have problems with it if you happen to do this.

Downgrading to 1.50 patches these IDstorage keys (to allow you to run the 1.50 kernel, which was the point of TA-082 to block it.)

If you downgrade to 1.50 and you have these patched keys, any future firmware (3.11+) check for these and prevent you from upgrading, however this is only for ORIGINAL sony firmware, not custom firmware.

So if you use pandora's battery and don't go to 1.50, you'll be fine. If you do go to 1.50 just remember to use the original XMB custom firmware installer so that can repair your idstorage keys. But if you don't go to 1.50, or pre 3.71M33 firmware[s], ignore what I just said as it does not apply.

If you need any future help regarding this [TA-082 mobo], feel free to PM me, I had one and I found all the do's and don'ts about it.
