Things are going great with the PSP and my first ever go at CFW which I got yesterday (I'm on 5.00 m33-4). Or they were until I encountered a problem I hope you're familiar with and know how to resolve.

So far, it's only happened with Manhunt 2 and Football Manager 2009. Basically, they're shutting off the PSP to the sound of this solitary short sound! Like when something shorts! I hope it's not messing up my PSP! lol

On Football Manager 2009, I can pick a team, write my name in there, and when it loads all the leagues and games, etc, that's when it happens. With Manhunt 2, that doesn't even display one company logo before doing it.

Will report back with any other games that are having problems. Also, I tried running them with a UMD in the drive and changing the CPU settings to every different option. Still no luck.

Please get back to me, people! Going on the train the day after tomorrow!!

    Oh and so far, these following games have worked;

    Star Ocean (PSP)
    God of War (PSP)
    Final Fantasy 2 (PSP)
    Silent Hill (PSone)
    Final Fantasy 7 (PSone)

Another one bit the dust. GTA: Vice City Stories crashes and turns off my PSP when you walk over a floppy disc icon to save!

Hope somebody will be able to help!

I'm going through the others now guys as it appears the problem occurs mostly when trying to save.

I just played some God of War which I listed above as working, and that crashes when trying to save too!

Really pissed off! Hope someone can give me an answer!

It gets worse guys... all those games I said work above, all crash when trying to save.

Basically all PSone games work, whereas PSP both ISO and original UMDs crash when I try to save!

This is why I'm going to forward what Bewood has said to me...Get rid of 5.00. It's quite possibly the worst FW ever for games...If I were you I would go to 4.01 M33-2. I'm having no problems with it. Use hellcat's Flash Recovery. It gives instructions on how to use it.

First of all try to edit your posts rather than continually posting. Secondly for your problem, it seems to be a hardware problem since you say you hear a noise when it turns off. That is obviously not normal, even when things crash.

Do you know the history of your PSP? Has it ever been opened and physically modded inside? It seems there is some problem relating to the memory stick and UMD's (i know you say ISO, but they still run on the same hardware as a UMD would).

    EDIT:

    He said this though:

Thats nothing to do with versions of CFW, thats a hardware issue.

Yeah...Sorry about that...I kinda didn't read that part...but it could just be the speakers making the noise. If you bought your PSP off eBay or it was previously used...Sorry man but you got a broken PSP.

No worries, and i guess it could be just the speakers, but that's easily tested by muting them. Sounds like something hasn't been put back together properly inside to me though.

Why the lol? Are you trying to rub it in?! O_o

And to the above queries, I bought this PSP BRAND NEW from Play.com and it has NEVER been opened up, dropped, etc.

I will get back to you in about 2 hours on if it makes a sound with the volume turned down.

EDIT: Well guys, it turns out that noise still happens with the volume on mute! I am told by a few in the know that it sounds to them like it's a problem with my mem stick and should test another one! Think it's worth buying another just to see if it's not my PSP? Also, to the guy from the UK, how much does it cost on average to get a PSP fixed? Is it cheaper to go with Sony to fix it?

    20 bucks for a 512 O.o. where do you live?honestly

just get a micro sdhc.they work for the psp and run smoother imho

i got a thread link,2nd link in my signature for the info.

also to all the people hating 5.00 m33,its no different from any other firmware, especially when the -4 update happened.if you have difficulties its prolly small bugs in phat psps.since i dont have a phat i cant test this, but ive ran each and every homebrew/plugin in existence, minus the 1.50 ones for obvious reasons on a slim and it all works fine.every psx game, psp game, homebrew and plugins(some plugins needed updates,as well as a couple homebrew, but the updates were released and work flawless now.its funny that your blaming dark alexes work, whitch has brought us all joy since the beginning and perhaps the problem you should be more concerned with is the homebrew makers just not writing 3.xx 4.xx or 5.xx as compatibility and instead typing like 3.90 as some homebrews do making it firmware specific.
