Looking to start doing firmware updates...

Hi, I currently have a PSP-1000, running on 3.30 OE-A. I had the custom firmware put on when I first got it and haven't updated since.

I've looked all over the forums but could not, for the life of me, find a thread concerning 3.30 OE-A. I've found a couple of 3.40 but I'm not sure if those guides apply to me as well.

I also do not know what exactly I need for the updates. Some posts say Pandora, Magic Memory Stick, and some other posts say to just use something like Hellcats to update it. There's also posts that tell me I need GTA and such and such.

I'm completely confused by all this lingo. Can anybody help me with some specific instructions in a walkthrough or refer me to one?

Also, am I supposed to downgrade and then upgrade to the latest firmware? If so, how would I do that?

Here is an easier option for you. Upgrade your PSP to official firmware 5.03. NOT any higher, exactly 5.03. Here is the file:

RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

Rename the file to EBOOT.PBP and place this in a folder called UPDATE in your GAME folder. So X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP. Then just run it from your PSP.

Then get the 5.03 ChickHEN exploit and enable it as instructed in the readme:
ChickHEN Homebrew Enabler R2 Download

Once you're running in the HEN environment, run a program called Hellcats Recovery Flasher here:
File Details-Recovery-Flasher-v1.41-PSP -

Again, read the included readme for instructions. Make sure you have a copy of the 5.00 official eboot on the root of your memory stick, and flash 5.00 M33-3 onto the PSP.

Nope, none of those are needed with this new method. I just edited to add some more info and links aswell to make things easier for you.

Get the official 5.00 EBOOT here - RapidShare: Easy Filehosting Put it on the root of your stick.

You don't need the M33 version, that will come in with the hellcats recovery flasher.

No you have to update to 3.40 OE-A i think it is. Guess he could do that, doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

True that, just thought if he could run hellcats from 3.30 then might as well just do that, HEN works fine tho.

Um, quick question.. how do I update to 5.03? I put the file into the UPDATE folder.. now what? Do I go into recovery mode?

No just go to the memory stick under games and it should be there.

Not too familiar with OE so theres probably a setting somewhere you need to set to get it working. kernel/umd modes?

My PSP is currently under 1.5 kernel. Should I change it to 3.xx kernel?
