Hi all I just bought a psp 1001 with 3.95, can someone please point me in the right direction on modding this unit. I am a noob, and any help would be great. I believe from what i have read that this model and firmware version is hackable.

all psp 1000's are...you have 2 choices right now, but my personal preference is the best choice for our psps which is way of pandora battery and magic memory stick...in case anything ever happens, perfect tools to have if you own a 1000 or early slim that accepts pandora's also...

you can use the chickhen method, look in the guides section about it...you have to update to 5.03 and then install the cfw installer and fully install cfw like that...it can take a lot of times using this method...so again, i prefer the 1st method i gave you...

    hope that helped

Installing ChickenHEN is free. It also takes hell of a lot less time than buying a Pandora Battery from DealExtreme and waiting for a week or two or three for it to arrive.

This is the thread detailing all the steps you'll need to take to get your PSP running custom firmware...

i agree slowman too with that, but having a psp that can use the pandora and mms, for me anyways, would still make me purchase it...

i'd probably install cfw using chickhen while my pandora was on its way, i love having the option to do whatever i want with my psp and not worrying if i ever brick it experimenting with firmwares and such

    I've had a 1k since 2005, and it's never bricked, and i've never had/used a pandora/mms.

Yep. Now I have two phats I have the option of softmodding a pandora should I ever need one but nope, I've flashed lots of upgrades, programs etc, never bricked. I'm just very careful with what I do.

i love your tenderness with the psps lol...only 1 brick on my own, again i don't know what happened, have flashed 5 psp phats myself with my pandora personally and none of them have bricked once either

i've actually been looking into getting a 2nd phat myself to keep on ofw just for the hell of it...or maybe find an early model slim that accepts pandoras

Well obviously back before pandoras, everyone was very careful with what they did, because back then, a brick was a brick, non-recoverable if you were out of warranty.

The only brick I've ever done was last night.

I intentionally semi-bricked by messing with flash0 in order for the 150.pbp to run from PSP/GAME/RECOVERY so I could install OFW 1.50.
