Hey guys I have a PSP 2001 piano black slim. The number on the bottom of the psp starts with ab015670 and a little more but i read that the rest was not important. The number under the battery begins with HU and a little more but i also read the rest of that number is not important either. I know i can hack it with a PB and MMS but im impatient and did not feel like waiting for it so i searched on how to do it without the PB and MMS and found the tiff exploit for firmware 5.03. So I
    1. upgraded to 5.03 OFW
    2. copied over all necessary files for the exploit to MS
    3. ran exploit, psp rebooted and under about system the firmware showed that the chickHEN was running
    4. i then used hellcats recovery to go to 3.71 CFW that went smoothly
    5. upgraded the firmware all the way up to 5.50 Gen-B

any emulator works but no cso's or iso's will run. I always get a game cannot be started. so im guessing you cannot use this method to play backups it will only allow you to run unsigned eboots on the psp. hence the emu's working and no backups. I just wanted to confirm this and make sure im correct and the only way to fully hack this PSP is to do it with a PB and MMS, or am i incorrect and just messed something up. Im kinda new but i did research and use the search button.

The method you are using works perfectly fine, should play backups; isos, cso without a prob. Are you making sure they are in the correct place? Should go into the "iso" folder on the root of you ms. If there isn't a folder named that for whatever reason just make one. Hope it works for ya. Also depending on which game won't play, you may need to decrypt it.

Has to be uppercase, so ISO.

Thank you Killer, my phone thinks its smart to auto decapitalize everything that isn't the start of a sentence. Forgot to go back and correct it.

Ah ok, prolly didn't change driver. On the reg psp menu hit select to bring up the vhs menu and change "umd iso mode" to either the sony one or the M33 one. I use M33 not sure if there is a difference but should work then!
