    ok from what i have read and researched(from numerous sitres including and e-mag i have)it says for ridge racer(maybe mroe games) that tehres a hack....first u pop the UMD disc in and wait till it loads...then take it out and it asks u if u want to "quit" say "no" and dont do anyting...then give it to the other psp user next to you and let him load it...let him host a game and when its searching for entries take it out and give it to the first person and let him "join" the game"...no whoever doesn't have the game will be playing without sound(is what i read)...but hey if it works...thats an awesome hack!!i have ridge racer my self..and would love to paly against someone...so in the future if theres some psp live...look me up

    Look at the box for the letter of firmware:

    (image from MODshark.com)

    No Letter = 1.50 (North-American release) Confirmed
    A = 1.50
    B = 1.51
    C = 1.52
    D = 1.52 Unconfirmed (multiple version reports)
    E = 1.52
    F = 2.00
    G = 2.01
    H = 2.50
    I = 2.60
    J = 2.60 Unconfirmed (multiple version reports)
    K = 2.71 Unconfirmed (multiple version reports)
    L = 2.80
    M = 3.00 Unconfirmed (multiple version reports)
    N = 3.01
    O = 3.02
    P = 3.03

    All of the above firmwares can be downgraded to 1.50 then to custom firmware at wish. Use the tutorial section to see how to downgrade the PSP system softwares.

    Any new psp you purchase at the moment is downgradeable, meaning the system software it will come with is a version that is able to be downgraded to the homebrew-friendly version 1.5.

    If you leave it a long time before purchasing one they may start shipping with 3.10, though I doubt that at their current rate of sale too many stores will be running out of stock any time soon.
