Upgrade 5.50 GEN D-3 to 6.60ME-1.6

I recently signed up to this site seeing as how I can't seem to find help elsewhere, and I'm a moderate noob; I can follow instructions but anything too technical and I'm left to scratching my head. As the title suggests, I'm attempting to upgrade my PSP from 5.50 GEN D-3 to 6.60ME-1.6 (or possibly an updated firmware if it's out there, 1.6 would be fine). It's a phat PSP, 1006 to be specific. Recently, Megaupload and Filesonic were shut down, I'm sure you can find articles online for the specifics, so I'm left unable to download any of the files necessary to upgrade when I attempted to do this on my own. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, and keep in mind, please provide specific instructions (not necessarily telling me what a "root directory" is and where to find it). Also, where can I find the files besides this site? Thank you once again.

Also in the same boat, I recently attained a PSP 1001 after my last one was stolen a few months ago and now cannot hack this PSP. Any help with attaining the CFW 660 ME files would be great, also is there an IRC channel up for this forum?

Hi, I have both the 6.60 OFW, and the CFW 6.60 ME 1.6 (OFW Ver.) and at the moment I have Firmware Ver. 5.50 GEN-D3 but I'm confused by two things:
1) Do I need pandora battery and magic memory card to update to 6.60 ME 1.6?
2) I have PSP2004 but i can't check whether it started with AB in the serial coz it was erased (can't find the right word for it, hope you understand). Is it hackable?
I know how to upgrade it but I don't know whether I can do it coz of these 2 propblems. I don't have pandora battery and mms. Thanks
