[Help] Update psp cfw from 3.51 m33 to the latest firmware

I'm new to the site and I need help with my psp 1000, I literally picked it up for the first time in years, and I can't run some of the newer games now. I'd like to update my firmware but I have no idea how or where to start. My friend flashed it in the first place all those years ago, so I don't even know how that was done. Could someone post a step by step tutorial of how to upgrade? From what I gather I have to do multiple updates before I get to cfw 6.60. Any response would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

welcome to this site lad! please go here and grab hellcat's recovery flasher FaustNero
extract the file and copy file into psp file dir ms0:/PSP/GAME. run it on your psp and select target which is 5.00. when flashing is done, grab 6.60 OFW (you can get it from the download section of the site) and use the same process how you put the hellcat's into the psp. run it.

Thanks a lot for the quick response man! I'm about to try your steps, I see you mentioned 6.60 OFW instead of CFW, will I still be able to play downloaded games with the official firmware?

I have a PSP 1000 on 3.51 m33-7 and i tried the above Hellcat Recovery Flasher but it said it wouldnt work. I also tried using the normal m33 recovery way to go to the 5.00 OFW EBOOT. I am so far getting nowhere. I have tried going to 1.50 OFW but that didnt work. I cant seem to go to CFW or OFW. I must be doing something wrong.

Can anyone help me please?

dankgame gives instructions in post 8 & 10, follow those steps and you should be running custom firmware on your psp1000, i have done a 3003 and 4 1000's using that info
