    Hi

As im sure you know the chat room has been unavailable for the last few days. The reason for this is because there is some sort of bug in the chat software. This bug is allowing someone to send 1000's of spam e-mails out every day.

At the moment I have disabled the chat and am monitoring how many e-mails are being sent out per day. In the next few days i will re-enable the chat as i believe i might know a fix to this issue.

    Sorry for the downtime

It's likely caused by the fact that if you click someone's name in chat, you are led straight to their profile, whereas if you click someone's name in a post, you need to navigate a javascript menu. In other words, it's easier for bots to get to email addresses. Just tell everyone to hide their email address from their profile.

All email adresses are hidden, the problem is people have their IM address displayed in their profile, which is usually also their email address.

They do it to make money/get personal details basically. I don't remember the statistic right now, but it's something like for every 1000 spam emails they send out, they get 1 response from in some way.

Yea, but on a PSP hacking site, it seems pointless IMO...If your gonna spam emails, do it on a site where the general population isn't 15.

Well I assume they just program the bots to crawl any forums, I doubt they know which they're going to.

Question. Do you change your font size/color everytime you post?

Alright so hide contact information or post them as complex pictures, or even require a Captcha to view contact information.

That isn't really the issue though, since unregistered members can't see any user details in the normal way, they were obviously getting in through the chatbox into the database somehow, which no ammount of coverups or blocking will get around, if they have access to the database they can have any info they like.

No. He's saying that there's a security hole that has compromised the contact information of everyone the site. You can't just get rid of the database. The database is the collection of all user data.
