Im also using vista (home basic that came with the laptop ) and I successfully installed 3.71 M33-2 CFW on my psp slim today -trust me, I was tearing my hair out trying all sorts of methods I read online until I found this so If you want something that works 100%, then follow this and you shouldnt run into any problems:

FOR VISTA USERS:

save this file: hxxp://www.sendspace.com/file/91aeat

( change xx to tt )

Format your MS in your psp

1. Download and extract the files, copy the 'Pandora371' folder to your C:
- you will need 'Administrator permission' to copy the folder, press the continue button twice
*(make sure you are the administrator on your computer via control panel if you arent already)*

2. Turn on your PSP and insert the memory stick you want change to a 'Pandora' memory stick.

3. Right click your desktop and create a new shortcut, type in CMD and click next twice.
* Right click on the new shortcut and choose 'Run as Administrator' and choose 'Continue' and a black MS-DOS window will open.
* (The title of the window should read 'Administrator: cmd.exe')

4. Type in: CD \ and press Enter, this will take you to your C:\> Drive.

5. Now type in CD Pandora371 and press Enter, this will change the folder to C:\Pandora371>

6. Type in installipl and press enter and you should see this on the screen:

PSP MS IPL Installer
Load IPL code .\ipl_loader.bin
15620 bytes(4 block) readed
Scan Media
Drive 0:Non RemovableMedia
Connect target MsProDuo

7. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable and activate the USB connection while the MSDOS window is open.

8. The Program will auto-detect the memory stick and will ask 'Are you sure? [Y]', press Y.

9. If you see "Write MS BOOT CODE" then the 'Pandora Bootcode' has been written to the memory stick.

*You can now close the black MSDOS window since you have the 'bootcode' installed to the memory stick.
Do not format your memory stick after this, doing so will erase the
'Pandora Bootcode' and you will need to make the memory stick again.

FOR PSP SLIM USERS: hold, and keep holding down the L button before putting in the pandora battery. Keep holding it down through the install until you are prompted to press 'X' to shutdown the PSP.

You should now be running 3.71 M33-2 firmware.

** I take no credit for this guide it was made by Skyline from consolespot.net **

Hope this helps!
I followed this and put in my pandora battery, the psp boots up and starts like normal, but the firmware still says 3.90

I don't know if this has been posted yet but for vista users, I think the reason why it's not working on vista is cause that lame UAC AKA User Account Control is on which messes up everything everything in CMD. You can turn this off in msconfig in the last tab. I didn't even have to run as administrator and I got this working.

Would this magic memory card work for a slim psp with original firmware version 3.72?

Has anyone tried it on their psp slim?

has anyone used this method with success? i just got my datel pandora in the mail and i wanna make my MMS, but from what i'm reading this may not be the best way to go for it... i have a PSP slim running OFW 3.80, a datel pandora TOOL battery, and i run winXP pro... anyone with similar HW use this method successfully??

i am reluctant to try this method, although it DOES seem to be easier that all the other methods I've read about, it seems a lot of you are running Vista (i don't know why, i personally think Vista blows) and are having success with this method... but what about us WinXP Pro users? Can anyone testify that they used this method on a slim w/winXP with out a problem??

If everything went smooth while creating the mem stick and you have a slim psp , all you need to do is press X and that will begin the installation. Give it about 3 minutes and the psp should automatically turn off. Once that happens, take out the battery and turn it on using the power adapter.
