1 - Just received a "new" v1.5 PSP, now what?
Hey everyone, this is my first post!
I've been searching the boards (and the Googler) all day for an answer or suggestions to my dilemma, so before anyone flames me for not searching first...
I have a younger brother who received a PSP a few years ago and played it once. I mean, it came with the Spiderman 2 UMD - that long ago - and it was returned into the box because at the same time, he received a Wii and an XBOX 360.
I inquired about it because I need something to do when i'm between classes (Texas) and I used to be a UNIX admin in the Navy, so i've got the mind to do something awesome with my "new" PSP (but it's been a while). shockingly, my bro just forked it over, and after checking it out, here's the rundown:
Version 1.5, PSP 1001
literally used once - for a freakin movie!
So, I own this PSP and the mem card it comes with, and i'd like to buy a larger mem stick and the USB cable for connectivity, but I also want to explore emulators (SNES/DOSBOX/Linux) what should I do?
1. What FW should I upgrade to first?
2. What should I buy for the PSP?
Thanks! |

Put cfw on it. Use pandora and mms or ChickHen.

Or even at least just point me in the right direction. I'm positive once I get going, i'll catch up and not feel like a n00b, but it's that first step... |

Get a pandora battery and mms to mod your psp. Go to any cfw you want. 5.00m33-6 is recommend but 5.50Gen-D has all the new stuff so its up to you.

Can I directly download 5.00 or 5.50 to my PSP with it having 1.5 or do I need to step my PSP up to another firmware before making the upgrade? It's a weird question, I know.

He doesn't need a pandora or use ChickHEN to get CFW, just Hellcats Recovery Flasher, the 1.50 version, and the 5.00 EBOOT.

Update to 3.40 OE-A from the 1.50 OFW you're currently on. Then Upgrade to 3.52 M33-4, then upgrade to 3.80 M33. Enable the, "Use M33 Network Update" in your Recovery Menu, and then upgrade to 5.00 M33-6 by using the PSP's Network Update feature. Hellcat's is easier, but I believe in the theory that everyone should use the "oldschool" way of updating at least once... They didn't have Hellcat's back in my day. *Makes various old-people noises* |

If it were full old school we'd make him update to something like 2.60 OFW and use a downgrader first.
