Default Can't get any PMP videos to play in PMPlayer!

Has anyone here tried the new PMPlayer? I have converted many video files to PMP but none of them play in there. The time on them all say 00:00:00 and there is no preview thumbnail. I tried all of the files in PSPOSX and they all work fine in there.

Yeah, been around for some time. Probably since 2005. Sorry couldn't help you with your prob. I tried it once, found I liked official Sony video player better and never tried it again. True, at the time, it was the only way you can play full res videos on your PSP, but if I still had to convert to a proprietary format (which was more bothersome than converting to MP4), why bother? At least MP4 is a standard unlike PMP.

I found out what was wrong...I was using an older version of XviD4PSP which made PMP files that were not compatible with this new player. I updated my iR Shell to 3.7 and found PMPlayer was added in it, in the forums I learned that MediaCoder would properly make the PMP files, so that is what I am using now.

And my PMP files seem to turn out smaller than the same video in MP4. Like this video I just converted, as PMP it is 8.2MB, as MP4 its 8.7MB + it always needs that THM file. What is that THM file for? I can never get any MP4 video to play without it.

It doesn't need the THM file (THuMbnail). I have a bunch of videos in my folder and none of them has it. The PSP just uses its own thumbnails if the video doesn't have it.

It's possible that the extra 500KB is just the MP4 overhead. However, it is also possible that you're not converting them using the same programs, codecs and settings. When you convert them using the same program, codec and settings, with the container as the only thing variable, then, you can make a fair comparison of which container format uses more space.

Well, all is working well now with this MediaCoder, might use it as my main converter now since I think it an do videos for my MP3 Player also.

And about that THM file, is it really just a thumbnail? I really could not get ANY video to play without that file in the same folder.

Yes, it is just a thumbnail. JPEG, iirc. With regards to not being able to play the video if there's no THM, that hasn't happened to me. Maybe you just used the wrong video/audio settings or (for older firmware) didn't change the header or something? The lack of the THM file should have no bearing on whether a video is playable or not on your PSP.
