I have v1.5, but I want to play UMDs
Hello everyone,
This is my first post here, but I'm sure it will not be my last. I have a few quick questions I was hoping you guys could help me with since you're the experts and I'm not exactly a wiz with this stuff.
I have one of the original PSP versions (1.5, never downgraded). I have downloaded some emulators awhile back, and I obviously do not want to lose them. Now, I want to play some UMD games as well, but they all tell me I need to "update to version ____" in order to play them.
I've done some research, and I came across Devhook, but when I go to sites to download, it says I will need to download version 3. something. Wouldn't this disable my emulators with an updated version of firmware?
How do I go about keeping my 1.5 but also play UMDs that require higher firmwares to operate?
Thanks for your help in advance. |

Why not just update to like 3.52 m33, then get the emus again?
shouldn't be that hard??

Thanks for the feedback on this.
Just so we're clear, if I download this version 3.52 m33-4, I'll be able to keep my emulators and then be able to play UMDs? Would I also need to download Devhook in addition to the 3.52 version?
I'm assuming the 3.52 m33-4 is a Sony upgrade? Maybe I'm wrong and this is custom. I apologize for my level of knowledge on this (or lack thereof!).
I have my emulators saved to my memory stick, so I'm thinking I wouldn't need to re-download them again.
Thanks again on this! |

no you dont need devhook cause 3.52 m33-4 is a cfw that lets you play umd's videos homebrews emulators and etc.

I have v1.5, but I want to play UMDs
Hey guys, thanks again for all your help.
I am in the process of downloading the 3.52 m33 file. I'm on the step of 3.52 M33 FIRMWARE CREATOR
Loading 1.50 firmware … OK
Writing 1.50 firmware … OK
Loading 3.52 firmware … OK
Writing 3.52 firmware …
It's been "writing" for going on 30 minutes now. I'm afraid to reboot in light of bricking. Is this common? Does anyone have any insight on what's going on with this?
Thanks again! |

Assuming you're trying to install firmware 3.52 M33, the creator just makes an update EBOOT.PBP which you then run to install CFW. Nothing is being written to your PSP yet. I'd suggest waiting 3 hours or so and if it still doesn't finish, feel free to exit the program/cold boot your PSP and maybe clean up your memory stick prior to running the program again.

the only reason to update to 3.71m33 as of now, is if you are on the slim. |

I'm still at 3.40* and I don't see a reason to update to 3.52 M33. Popsloader, I have no use for as all PSX games I've played so far work well on 3.40. UMD Video ISO support, they're too big so I'd rather bring the UMD or convert my DVD to a more manageable-sized MP4. Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core works on 3.40 and that's the only new game I'm playing. Yeah, no reason to update.
