Brought my PSP out of retirement today after almost 6 months. Updated to 2.71 from 2.60 in the hopes of going down to 1.5. Although I might just hold out for the homebrews for 2.71 as Dark_Alex has said this format should be better soon for homebrews than 1.5. Anyhow to my question. I wanted to play Hot Shots Golf and I get a message saying "the disc could not be read". Clean the disc with a little disc cleaner I bought for UMD's. Same result. I tried other games, and all ended with the same message. Need some help to diagnose the problem. Thanks in advance. Oh, if there is a sticky on this that I didn't see, please point me to the right thread. Thanks again!

so did you go down to 1.5? if you did that game probally requires a higher firmware but i don't think that would be what it tells you.

    No I'm still at 2.71.

Check the lens. Get a few q-tips and some rubbing alcohol. Swab gently, and re-clean a UMD. Try again.

Did that. Now after I put a UMD in, all I hear is the laser moving attempting to read the UMD. Doesn't even come up with a "unable to read disc" message. Is there a sticky on how to replace the UMD drive? I see there is replacement parts on eBay.
I just want to play some NES games!
