im trying to upgrade my computer its like almost 2 years old and i want to customize some of the parts. i dont know much about computer parts or anything like that but heres what the computer came with:
    3500 AMD Athlon 64 processor
    1 Gb memory
    200 GB Hard Drive
    ATI Radeon Xpress 200
    PCI Express Slot

i know theres more but i cant really name the motherboard, etc.thats all i know about it, i dont know what type of brand they are, but i want to add a cooling system, add some neon lights to it, and remove the side panel and add one with a window or design on it. i really dont know what else to upgrade because i use my computer on everything video editing, photo editing, browsing the web, burning dvds/cds thats about it, oh my computer is a compaq presario.

If you want to keep your warantee I wouldnt mess with it. There are some tweaks you could do, but adding lights, and chopping your case will do nothing for performance. If you want a monster just make sure the hard drive is using SATA, and max out your ram. 1 gb is kinda weak. Also since its a compaq I would either reformat it to get rid of all that compaq crap that has no use, or just remove it.

I recommend upgrading the RAM to 2GB, and getting a new graphics card. Your processor isn't dual core, but it will last you another few years before becoming obsolete. As far as the warranty goes....lets just say none of my stuff has a warranty anymore....especially my PSP =P (with the exception of the Macbook Pro....gotta keep the mac safe =P )

Go for more RAM, a new graphics card. A cooling system won't do any good unless you're overclocking. I'd say get a nice wireless keyboard and laser mouse before adding any LEDs or other superficial upgrades.

    your processor is still OK

buy VGA like GeForce 8600GT or the very expensive 8800
if you buying, GeForce 8600GT, buy Foxconn, its already overclocked from factory, its cheap, and its Very FAST, its faster than the more expensive GeForce 8600GTS

for RAM, 1GB is enough, but 2GB is better

i myself have this very old pc
    AMD Athlon XP 1.4GHz
    RAM 512MB
    VGA Radeon 9000

Your PC is good.If you want choose motherboard, maybe you need wait some monthes.Because AMD may release their new architecture named Socket A+.
So your CPU need change. And the memory ,2GB is right for Microsoft Vista.Grahpic Card can choose ATI 2600XT,that can support the HDTV very well.About the HDD,320G is very cheap now,I now use the Segate 7200.10 320G SATA2 (AHCI mod) 16M cache.Later you need one 400w power maybe.
