i upgraded all of my equipment a month or so ago, and since then have had an issue with my belkin n1 router losing the connection with the speedstream 5100 modem once a day.
ive tried everything to fix this and nothing is working. ive updated the firmware for both the router and modem, ive replaced the cables, the phone lines, the jack, even the outside phone wire going to the pc room.
everything is brand new.. the router, the modem, the cables, the pc, everything.
i thought that maybe heat was an issue, so i made a cooling fan stand for the router and it still lost the connection.
the first three weeks that i had the router, it worked fine.. and whats embarrassing is that i replaced the router because the linksys wrt54g disconnected once a week.
ive called belkin twice and both times they told me that they were going to have the engineering dept call me back... obviously they havent bothered to call.
    so, anyone have suggestions?

this maybe obvious but you have made sure that everything is configured and that all the cables are plugged in correctly?

oh yeah, thats been done numerous times. i think i may have solved the problem.. its been 4 days without a disconnect, and i think it was because i changed my upload port number for my laptop (which is mainly used for file sharing)... hopefully this will permanently solve the problem.

i still havent had a disconnect now, so it had to be the upload port that caused the problem.
if youre not uploading/downloading something, then you can do everything i tried.
update the system software for both your modem and router. unplug everything and try hooking up the internet line (cable or dsl) to the modem, plug the modem in, hook up the ethernet cable to the modem >router>computer, next, turn on the modem, wait until it full starts, turn on the router.
if it is simply disconnecting when youre downloading torrents, then try to change the upload port number. i set mine at 100 and havent had an issue yet.

and look for option that look like "auto disconnect when IDLE"

    disable it.
