Which do you think is the better system? I have the chance to use either. I need to keep Vista on this machine, atleast temporarily because I need to test the drivers on both systems and make sure everything works well. I've had experience with both, I used XP since the day it came out until Christmas last year, when I got this with Vista. As you probably already know, I hugely dislike Vista. After having some experience with Ubuntu 8.10, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a completely different experience, though not any less enjoyable. Looking at the specs, Ubuntu and XP take up roughly around the same space after updating XP, and they both run about the same for me. I'm leaning towards XP though, considering the amount of time I used it and how long I never had any issues with it. I only used Ubuntu for about a week and a half, then I had to unpartition my drive because I'm sending in my laptop for repair (screwy screen), but I didn't have any problems with drivers, except for the internet, which I had to mess with for about 3 or 4 hours to get it to work.
Oh, and here are my specs.

    Compaq Presario CQ50
2.0 GHZ Intel Pentium Dual Core T3200
2(soon to be 3)GB of RAM
    150GB HDD space

Oh, yes, I've used that. The only thing is that WINE is still limited.

If it was me, i would use xp (assuming youre planning on buying a new computer). The only reason I say to get it with xp, is because linux is free, and you can always install it if you want it down the road.

the sony locationfree player doesnt work with wine. it does not support direct x which is required.

Which, in theory, would disallow ALOT of gameplay. And that's what %50 of my time on the computer is spent doing.
And yeah Drew, I see your point. I'm not buying a new computer though, I just can't stand Vista anymore.
