    I have this.
    It's this model:

    Intel Celeron M 420(1.6GHz)
    512MB RAM.
    60GB HDD.
    15.4in display (1280x800
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 chipset (up to 128MB) (To my understanding. Windows only had info on it, coming up with Intel)
    CD-RW/DVD-RW Multi-Burner drive
    802.11abg wireless
    No fingerprint reader.
    No Bluetooth.
    XP Pro preinstalled.

And i'm looking to upgrade it. RAM is 2GB max. So i'll have 2x 1GB.
RAM: TradeMe.co.nz - 667mhz ddr2 sdram for sale, New Zealand

HDD: Western Digital Scorpio 500GB SATA Laptop HDD for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand

Video Card: Video cards - category on trademe.co.nz
I honestly have no idea about that...

And this display: LCD panel Samsung LTN154X3-L01 15.4" WXGA 1280x800 for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand

theres no question involved..but all right. your lappy is old as fuck and it would be better to replace it entirely if you wanna upgrade.

you can't upgrade the vid card on a lapy, and intel video is good for...youtube i guess

im guessing your cpu is singlecore so, you probably won't reap much benefit out of <1.5gb ram, since the cpu will be slow as hell managing that much memory.

and why do you want a monitor replacement?

Yeah, don't bother upgrading it, especially with the Celeron processor in there. Just buy a new one entirely.

    AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz | 4GB A-Data DDR2 RAM | Sparkle Nvidia GeForce 9400GT 512MB
    Intel Core i5 M430 2.27GHz | 4GB DDR3 RAM | Intel GMA HD

The Celeron was O.K. in the 2.2 or 2.6GHz in a desktop but yours is running at 1.6 and an M at that(M stands for mobile so its dumbed down even more). Get another Lappy.

    Haha, i may aswell anyway.
For the HDD, 2x1GB RAM and display, costs 400NZD. For 100 for i can get a Dell Mini 9/10v that runs Mac OS X 100%.

As for the monitor, it's shit. And LCD/Gloss one would fit it better.

If you're primarily surfing the internet, listening to music, and basically doing stuff that is not graphic-intensive, then go for the mini. Even here in the US, it's a great deal.

that mini dont say if it's singlecore or dualcore, and the price on the 2nd lappy is ridiculous.

for $550 i got a gateway 15 incher with AMD 2ghz dualcore, 4gb ram, WIN7 64bit, 320gb HD and a video card that plays current games, if at least barely. this lappy is miles ahead of that mini

He's in New Zealand. Different currency rates.

But yeah, don't buy the second laptop, it's a pretty old model.

    Mhm, 550USD is 780NZD. I don't have that.
I don't play those games either.
And i don't want Windows. I want Mac OS X 10.6. Which runs 100% on the Mini 9. btw, i'll have a 140GB external HDD by the time i get this. So i won't need to get a new SSD for it.

It's weird that only one of the models comes with the built in camera.

    AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz | 4GB A-Data DDR2 RAM | Sparkle Nvidia GeForce 9400GT 512MB
    Intel Core i5 M430 2.27GHz | 4GB DDR3 RAM | Intel GMA HD

Oooh... You got one of the POS "thinkpads" from the first line after their sale to Lenovo...Hope that hasn't turned you off of IBM forever, the old shit is built rock solid and the newer stuff is getting better.

...Not sure why they called it a celeron, that's one of the first pentium M's - depending on the family you can go up to 1.9ghz for under $40, and upgrade your ram to 2x1gig sticks for ~$50. You're SOL on video, though if that chipset has scalable vram you can at least get some performance increase. Depending on the HDD(ide or sata?) you can drop in a 120 for ~$60 and a 250 for about ~$150.

...So, for a couple hundred bucks, you could max it out - Though not much of a performance increase. If you've got the money to dump into it, just buy a new one, or a cheap older one - Unless you're a hardcore gamer and need the raw power, you don't NEED anything newer than about 5 years old.
If you see me running, try to keep up.
