I was getting white screens on topic creation at the computer board... so the topic is here, for now.

My laptop's hard drive has 30GB of space. My current external hard drive has 40GB of space. 70GB of space combined isn't enough... especially since I might need to reformat soon... which is because my computer has been running pretty slow the past few months. The most simple things take 3x longer than they should.

Here are the ones I'm considering.....
I had to give each one a separate post cause the forum is acting strange and will only let me add one URL per post. O_o

    Fantom Titanium-II TFD500U16 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache USB 2.0 External Hard Drive - Retail
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822204034
Notes: Tons of space and a 16MB cache, but it isn't USB powered. Seems to be a very good deal! This is the one I want the most, but I've heard rumors about Fantom drives... though my mom has had one for 6 months or so and it works just fine.

    Newegg: $119.99 ($94.99 after $25.00 Mail-In Rebate)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136025
Notes: Seems good just like the Fantom drive, but it's more expensive and there is no rebate. Also not USB powered.

    Newegg: $124.99

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148233
Notes: It's cheap, it offers lots of space (though not quite as much as I'd like). I don't think it's USB powered.

    Newegg: $74.99
Walmart price online: $94.88 (though I think I've seen it in stored too.)

Notes: The one above is a better value, but I like the way this one looks. It's one of my last choices though.

Notes: Not the best value for the price compared to the others I have listed. I think I might rule this one out, but I'm not sure.

Notes: Cheap as hell, especially for the space it provides! All of the reviews seem to indicate that this product is reliable.

Ok, since I am back home after getting my iPhone, it looks like the upgrade fucked up posting.

Ray, get on AIM, and send me the links since it looks like it'll take along time to post all of them.

Son of a bitch... they raised the price of the 500GB Fantom drive... Actually, what the hell?! It's listed on two different pages with two different prices! Both higher than the price in the post above though... It's still not too bad.

There's another cheaper one... but some of the reviews have scary cons listed.

    <div class='quotetop'></div><div class='quotemain'>Cavalry CAUE 500GB 3.5" External Hard Drive - Retail

    7200 RPM
    16MB Cache
    USB 2.0

    Rating: 4/5 [30 ratings]

    $117.49</div>

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822101031

Here are the really bad cons in one of the reviews...

<div class='quotetop'></div><div class='quotemain'>2. Fails to stay cool 3. Fan is not effective and rather noisy. 4.Some of the models have defective power switches causing the drive to malfunction</div>
There was another con, but it's really not a real issue.

I think you should get both of the Seagate drives, I've seen many Seagate drives be working when the power goes out and they still keep on working (Unless I was using a Windows Box for gaming, then it would delete all of the past save game files and some word documents)

Maxtor used to have quality drives, but I mainly use them for backups, if the Seagates even fail.

I'm only going to be getting one. I already have an older model 40GB Seagate external. Plus I don't feel like spending money on two.

So it's the 320GB Seagate or one of the 500GB hard drives. I'd really like to have as much space as possible, but I want something reliable.

Thanks for the advice, though I wish I could get some more opinions.

Go for the 500 GB one. They are worth what you spend on them.

My mom has an 80GB Fantom drive that works just fine, but the Cavalry is cheaper... I just don't know if the manufacturer is reliable.
