my question is a simple one. I am trying to figure out which g or n wireless router is best for my internet speed (so I dont waste any of my data speed). My internet specs are as follows:

download is up to 1.5 MBps
    Upload is 128 Kbps

I have a g router that is good up to 54Mbps. is this router good for my speed?? or a "n" router""

    * i am not concern on how far the signal will travel (small house), i just care that I don't loose internet speed while on wireless. thanks!!

It simply doesn't matter unless your internet speed is above 54Mpbs, which of course it isn't. N supports the fastest speeds of any protocol but again, if your internet isn't going that fast then it doesn't matter.

why when i check the speed on my desktop that is wired to the router via ethernet wire is shows the speed is 100 mbps. but in my laptop wireless is shows the speed is 54mbps? shouldn't these 2 speeds be the same? or is my routher limiting the speed to my laptop?

that was my test right there. you can see it's optimum that i use but i use the extra 9.99 boost package as well...so with that speed, your router would be pointless for me, i use a belkin N600 series so my wifi is great too in my house.

try a speed test off of speedtest.net

the maximum speed for the ethernet on the router is 100mbps, the max speed for wireless g on the router is 54 mbps

The speeds you see coming from your router to either your wired(100 mbps) or wireless(54 mbps) is the maximum data rate that your computer can communicate with the router. So if you were to transfer a 100mb file from one wired to another it would take 1 second to transfer and from a wired computer to a wireless device would take approx 2 seconds. The speeds you see coming from your router have no effect on your internet speeds until you get above the 54mbps as stated above. With your current connection a wireless G router will do just fine. in my area the fastest internet speed i can get is 50mbps so a wireless G would work as well. Right now i'm using a wireless N(Linksys WNR2000) as it was cheap at the time.

I just used it for my friends internet I'm using. I am half a block away, don't know if that matters.

Edit: Ya, looks like it makes a big difference. Lol
