what are you running?? i kept getting that on my gf's laptop with vista premium...got me so frustrated i formatted the damn thing.

when it's held up like that (if laptop, pull the battery, if pc, pull the cord) then have it troubleshoot the error, most likely it's going to use system restore

The graphics card or the visual cable may be broken.

97% of all statistics are lies this falls into that catagory.

You dont get a welcome screen but does it still boot up??. The welcome screen and the splash screen can be disabled or enabled by typing msconfig in the run option of your start menu.

if you have your backup disc that came with the pc, try booting up off of that.

you can even go into your bios settings and set it up to load off the disc.

is this a new issue that you're all of a sudden having? maybe you installed something that messed it up or deleted something you shouldn't have??

i'd pull the plug on the black screen, then start the pc in safe mode and see if that works. then i'd probably try a system restore, see what happens.

Can you hear POST? If so look up on another computer the beep sequence that you hear and that may lead you in the right direction.

well i think that i just had a virus somehow, said i had 1 important update, did it, restarted and it kept looping over and over and over...

i had to use my boot disc and did a system restore from that...think it was a phony update somehow...weird

Brilliant!, download CCleaner from filehippo and use this program to clean up your PC. Use the cleaner and the registry option regularly to keep your PC running smooth.
