Fallout 3, Fallout 3, and Fallout 3 are all excellent games. Highly recommended.
FPS games on PC > All FPS games on consoles. How's that for a recommendation

Out of the way, numbskulls. He wants real man opinions.
As slowman said, Fallout 3 is an excellent FPS/RPG hybrid with endless amounts of mods that make the game infinitely replayable. From small things like changing the sky color to make it more realistic to fighting Terminators in the wasteland to things like additional companions and Freddy Krueger showing up in a nightmare.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is another FPS/RPG hybrid where you get to explore a photorealistic Chernobyl.
Starcraft is the standard in RTS games but if you like seeing a massive body count on your screen, a good classic is Warhammer 40K Dawn of War as well as the Command & Conquer series.
then you have your standard better-on-PC-than-console FPS games like Left 4 Dead, Half-Life 2 (also infinitely moddable), Counter-Strike, and Team Fortress 2.
that's about scraping the top layer of good PC games. I have about 108 games on Steam and at least 100 more on disc so if these don't strike your fancy, let me know what you like playing and I'll find you something that fits.

what does RTS and FPS stand for?
thesexyone: CBC has it right but at least throw in some names
RTS: Real-Time Strategy. a console example is LOTR:Battle for Middle Earth II and Grim Grimoire
and FPS is First Person Shooter. Popular examples (too popular imo) are Halo and Call of Duty

I have heard of Portal and Portal 2 are those any good?
Portal 1 is short, Portal 2 is full-priced, kind of a short story but also has coop. Both games can be expanded on by downloading custom levels (on pc). Rest assured, they are both epic. They're pretty much brainteasers, and really are fun to play, the story is great
Actually, you can download custom levels or basically any Valve games (half life, left 4 dead MCDONALDS SURVIVAL YO, portal)

Fallout 3.
hitman 2, hitman 3, hitman 4, gothic, gothic 2, swat 4
i find it strange playing games on the PC. lol
Christ this thread needs some goddamn good games.
As far as Real Time Strategies go.
Company of heroes is a great WW2 themed one.
Dawn of War 2 is a fast paced thrill ride.
League of legends is free spinoff of a Warcraft 3 custom game Death of the Ancients. It's pretty popular and can be very intense.
As CBC said, all Source engine games are worth a look, half-life 1/2, counter strike source, day of defeat source.
Red Orchestra 2 is coming out soon another First person shooter, it should be an interesting twist to the genre.
Team Fortress 2 is free now as someone said. It's an interesting shooter definently worth a try.
As far as RPG's Oblivion is still a goody with mods (see nehrim)
Dragon Age is supposed to excellent (wasn't for me)
Knights of the Old Republic is an old for sure but it runs perfect on PC and has tons of mods.
Alien Swarm is a nice free top-down camera view shooter. Arcady and very fun.
Fallouts are good but I find them repetative after a while.
the PC version of devil may cry 4 is alot better then the console one.(i have experience with both to say that) still would recommended a gamepad, it says only xbox 360, by my ps2 controller works fine. but theres one issue that remains, the music in cutscenes, horrible.
diablo 1 and 2 are damn good.
call of duty 1 is sweet too.
star wars battlefront 1 and 2 have a few awsome mods and maps. bf2 with the bf1 conversion pack give the bf1 maps extra units, (in bf2) which have the republic commando weapons, and they come in handy if you do a CTF round with 64 AIs on the map.

Anyone mention steam?
I know people hate on it.
but I find it a very good program,
and if your looking for computer games,
its a great place to shop/try them out,
and they always have deals.
but as for games themselves:
Dragon age orgins
Dragon Age 2
Team Fortress 2
COD
Diablo 2
Starcraft 2
starcraft
Dungeon Siege 2
Dungeon Siege 1
there are so many more, but I'll stop there.
Hope it helps
V/R
Azure Ax
Star wars games on the computer such as Jedi knight 3: Jedi academy are great bets
Counterstrike source is alway fun
Starcraft 2
Basically any rts game, because of their easy moddability (empire at war is my favorite for mods)
Age of Mythology
