    Howdy
I recently obtained a Dell inspiron 15 (I forget the model number) with windows 7 home pro 64 bit. WIndows 7 is great, for most things, but I would like the option of having xp along side. Would XP home 32-bit function properly on a 64 bit machine?
    Thanks

Yes, yes it would. You would just need to partition in before installing it. I would use something like this:SystemRescueCd to do it, as it also has firefox to do while you wait for it to do the partitioning. or you could get another hard drive and save a lot of trouble.

Yes 32 bit will run on a 64 bit machine,
windows 7 has a built in partitioning program, go to windows, right click my computer, click manage, allow if uac is still active, if not thenjust go to storage on the right hand side, click disk managment, right click your drive and click shrink volume. you might need to format it.

I would go with the way josh told you to. Partitioning while on the actual hdd can ruin the fun.

That is why I told him to go that route, as PARTITIONING WHILE THE HARD DRIVE WHILE YOU ARE USING IT CAN MAKE YOU LOSE ALL OF YOUR DATA. I used caps to emphasize that part. Also, to be able to use system rescue cd, you need to burn it to a disk. Windows 7 should have a built in burner. When you boot up your computer, there should be a black screen that goes on for about a second. It should have a thing that says "press _ for boot options" or something along those lines. The _ is whatever key it says to push. Press that button. Then go to your DVD/CD drive to boot from the disk.
