AFKIM has always worked great for me. The keyboard is a pain in the ass, but its much nicer than lugging a laptop around for IM purposes. Very useful in school, lol.
Anyway, back on topic... That error code generally means the wrong Kernel is set. Put the AFKIM folders in the PSP/GAME folder on your memory stick and change the kernel to 1.50 in the recovery menu. That should fix it, if not well try something else.
