psp wifi max question

i have no wireless router and i am planning to buy a psp wifi max from ebay. i have a few questions, can you please answer guys:

1st my mate had a psp wifi max and he said it was rubbish and it would not let him play online on his psp.
and a psp wifi max can you just plug it in, in my computer and then search for a network on my psp, then will the psp wifi max show on the psp and all i have to do is click on it a then can i play online gaming??
ALSO when you want to play games online do you have to have the computer on. to connect to a psp

From everything I have seen the WiFi max is complete junk. I would recommend a wireless router over that any day.

Check on the prices of a wireless router compared to wifi-max.I wouldn't go as far to say it's junk but it definetly isn't compatable with some versions of windows XP.I have an older version of windows XP & couldn't get it to work,so i took it back & got a wireless router for $11.00 cheaper.So phone around & if your buddy has one try it on your comp. before you buy one'

I've heard it works but will only support 5 psp at once... also yes the computer does need to be on and u need to be connected to the internet when using the wifi max. I think u need to configure the settings on ur computer before playing online gaming so maybe thats y ur friend wasn't able to do it? anyway wifi max has it's ups and downs but so to does a wireless router... if u can find a wireless router for the same price or even cheaper then i would recommend that though.

i was scanning for a wireless router and i found one next door to me but i can only access it if i have a password. does anyone know if i can access it with a application so i wouldn't have to enter the password

I have many wireless APs, almost all of them work fine my PSP slim with 3.71 m33.

When i scan myself my psp picks up good signals its just you have to have a WEPKEY
